This week students were given advice on how to write the best medical school personal statement and were given resources to help with the application process in general. Believe it or not not everything in you're medical school essay needs to be directly related to medicine. Your personal statement should answer two questions: why you and why medicine. Students were taught to sell themselves as well as their passion for helping people and the passion for the medical sciences. For the second half of the meeting we discussed the arming of public safety and the implications it would have for the minority student body on the University of Rochester campus. This was accompanied by a call to action for everyone for not just this issue but any issues that may arise in the future in relation to the subjugation of minority communities on campus. As a minority organisation we believe it is important for MAPS to take a stand on these issues!
