MAPS As a National Organization:
The Minority Association of Pre-medical Students (MAPS) is an organization that represents the post-baccalaureate and undergraduate body of the parent organization named the Student National Medical Association (SNMA). Both organizations were created in response to the severe lack of diversity amongst health professionals in America and abroad. This lack of diversity makes a contribution to the numerous health disparities that continues to plague citizens of color and low socioeconomic status today.
MAPS Chapter at the University of Rochester:
The MAPS Chapter at the University of Rochester was charted by and is currently run under the Office of Minority Student Affairs (OMSA). It holds the same goals as the National Organization of increasing the number of underrepresented minorities (typically defined as Black, Latinx, and Native American) in. the medical field.
