Second Annual Professional Development Workshop

The Second Annual Professional Development Workshop was a collaborated effort between M.A.P.S., the Minority Male Leadership Association (MMLA), the National Society for Black Engineers (NSBE), the University of Rochester Simon Business School, and many other organizations. It was a workshop designed to provide students with the effective means of personal branding, successful techniques for a constructing a strong resume/cover letter, and key interview techniques that are necessary to be a strong applicant in any field. Additionally, students learned the significance of dress etiquette and effective networking skills and received the opportunity to network with graduate students at both the business and medical school.

Representing MAPS on the podium was MAPS’ President and Vice-President Liza Mukherjee and Isabelle Marcelin. They both shared the standard aims of MAPS, what we do and how we go about achieving our yearly goals.

Like always, the opportunity to network also included networking with Dean Burdick a very important University of Rochester faculty member. Overall, the workshop provided students with the tools and strategic skills needed to obtain successful professional opportunities. It permitted students to assess themselves on a professional level, and allowed them to evaluate the dichotomy between professional and personal.
